Control Types for Heavy-Duty Platform Cart
Control options
Morello’s heavy-duty platform carts can be operated in four different ways:
- Wired pendant panel control
- Radio remote control
- Footboard control (ride-on version)
- Driver’s cab control
In addition to operator-controlled solutions, our electric vehicles can also be supplied in a fully automatic AGV version, which is described in detail in the dedicated section linked here.
For operator-controlled trolleys, the choice of the most suitable control system depends on several factors, including:
- Indoor, outdoor or mixed operating environments
- Length of the operating routes
- Travel speed of the electric-powered cart
- Work cycles, ranging from limited daily use to 24/7 operation
- Steering configuration (see steering types here).
Battery-operated truck with wired pendant control
The wired pendant control is the simplest, most cost-effective, and most reliable solution for operating any Morello’s heavy-duty platform cart.
In this configuration, the trolley is equipped with two control sockets positioned at opposite corners, allowing the wired pendant to be connected as required. During operation, the operator must remain at a safe distance from the self-propelled vehicle, typically between 2 or 3 meters.
This control system is particularly suitable for applications where the cart does not need to cover long distances, as the operator must walk alongside the vehicle. It is therefore ideal for reduced travel speeds and moderate-duty work cycles.
The wired pendant version is also frequently supplied as a backup control system when customers choose a radio remote-controlled configuration.
Radio remote-controlled cart
Radio remote control is the most flexible control solution for Morello’s carts. This system uses wireless communication between the control unit and the battery-powered cart via an integrated onboard receiver.
The absence of a connection cable allows the operator to control the cart from the safest and most advantageous position, ensuring optimal visibility without mobility constraints.
Radio remote-controlled carts are particularly recommended for vehicles equipped with omnidirectional steering. Since these carts can move in any direction, rotate on the spot, and operate in very confined spaces, they require an operator who is fully independent from the vehicle.
Because the operator does not need to follow the cart step by step, this control mode is even more suitable than a wired pendant for trolleys with more intensive or continuous work cycles.
Footboard control (ride-on mode)
Footboard control allows the operator to stand on a platform mounted directly on the electric truck, eliminating the need to walk alongside the vehicle during handling operations.
The footboard can be equipped with dedicated controls such as a steering wheel and driving joystick, or it can be simplified for use with a wired pendant panel or radio remote control.
This control solution is ideal for electric trucks that travel long distances at relatively high speeds. By allowing the operator to ride on the vehicle, it significantly reduces physical fatigue and is therefore well suited for demanding work cycles requiring continuous operation.
Heavy-duty platform cart with driver’s cab
For particularly long transport routes and higher operating speeds, Morello’s battery-operated trucks can be equipped with a dedicated driver’s cab.
In this configuration, the operator sits comfortably in a cabin fitted with a seat, steering wheel, brake and accelerator pedals, control panel, and a wide range of optional features designed to maximize comfort and operational flexibility.
The cabin can be partially open or fully enclosed. Fully enclosed versions can be equipped with heating and air conditioning systems, providing an ideal solution for long outdoor material handling operations in varying weather conditions.
This option is often chosen by customers as a sustainable alternative to diesel-powered vehicles. In addition to full customization of load capacity and dimensions, Morello’s heavy-duty platform carts are available in battery-powered and motorized electric versions, completely eliminating emissions. Our electric trucks offer a 100% sustainable and eco-friendly solution for industrial material handling.
