A diesel self-propelled platform truck is especially suitable when the required performance exceeds the capabilities of battery-powered industrial carts, or when operating cycles do not allow sufficient time for battery recharging. In these cases, diesel power helps maintain consistent performance across different surfaces and demanding work conditions.
Thanks to hydraulic axle compensation, uneven or rough ground conditions no longer represent a challenge for material handling operations. This makes each SPMT transporter suitable for indoor, outdoor and offshore environments where large components must be moved with precision and control.
Power, TRANSMISSION and HYBRID operation
Morello’s motorized industrial transporters can be equipped with hydraulic motors with hydrostatic transmission or electric motors powered by an onboard generator. The choice depends on the required performance, operating environment, control logic and type of load to be handled.
Hybrid self-propelled modular transporters are also available, allowing operators to use the diesel engine outdoors and switch to battery power for indoor operations. This configuration is useful when the same vehicle must work across different areas of the plant while reducing emissions inside closed environments.
For applications that require high capacity, maneuverability and strong traction, a diesel-powered self-propelled modular trailer can be developed according to the specific route, floor conditions and operational cycle.

DIESEL vs BATTERY-POWERED carts
Diesel-powered solutions are generally preferred when the application requires long operating cycles, outdoor movement, uneven surfaces, high gradients or continuous use without charging stops. They are also suitable when the vehicle must deliver strong performance in demanding environments.
Battery-powered carts, on the other hand, are often the best option for indoor operations, zero-emission handling and applications where charging cycles can be planned around the production flow.
Choosing between diesel and battery technology depends on the load, route, operating time, surface conditions, working environment and sustainability objectives of the plant.
